Airline Reviews

American
Airlines is the second largest airline in the world. It began operations in
1930 after the consolidation of numerous small airlines and was already the
largest domestic airline in the US by the end of the 1930s. It operated
American Overseas Airlines (AOA), a trans-Atlantic division, which served a
number of European countries from 1945 to 1950, just after World War II. This
subsequently merged with Pan American World Airways in 1950. In 1979, American
Airlines began a major route expansion, initiating new destinations across the
US and the Caribbean. Progress continued over the next decades and it continued
to introduce new routes, new aircraft and new fare types including super saver
fares. In 1999, it was one of the founding members of the OneWorld Alliance.
Its parent company, AMR Corporation, filed for bankruptcy protection in
November 2011 so some routes were cut and aircraft grounded but the company has
now left bankruptcy and appears to be operational once more.
