Aeromexico is Mexico’s flagship airline carrier. It commenced service 81 years ago in 1934. It currently operates over 56 flights to all destinations including 32 cities in Mexico. Among its international destinations include major cities in the US, Europe, Canada, Asia and South America. It begun its international expansion as early as the 1960s. In 1988, a large strike among its employees over conditions directly led to the bankruptcy of the company and the ultimate suspensions of all operations in April of that year. However, on October 1st, the business was reborn with a new name: Aeroovias de Mexico, S.A. de C.V., which started with a clean slate. In 1990, it acquired the regional Mexican airline, AerosLitoral and continued its expansion with the founding of a regional feeder airline, Aerovias de Poniente, in February of 1992. Both airlines merged into AeroLitoral S.A. de C.V. just four years later in 1996. In the year 2000, it was one of the founding airline members of the SkyTeam alliance and subsequently changed its name to Aeromexico connect in 2007.
